Out of What Scripture Was The LUKEWARM Initiative Birthed and Adopted?

Romans 8: 14-17 – 14 For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God15 For you did not receive the spirit of bondage again to fear, but you received the Spirit of adoption by whom we cry out, “Abba, Father.” 16 The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God17 and if children, then heirs—heirs of God and joint heirs with Christ, if indeed we suffer with Him, that we may also be glorified together.

Why do we adopt? We love Him Because He first loved us. We received the Spirit of adoption freely and we freely give the Spirit of adoption to children in need.

Revelation 3:14-22 – 14These things says the Amen, the Faithful and True Witness, the Beginning of the creation of God: 15 I know your works, that you are neither cold nor hot. I could wish you were cold or hot. 16 So then, because you are LUKEWARM, and neither cold nor hot, I will vomit you out of My mouth . . . 19 As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten. Therefore be zealous and repent.20 Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and dine with him, and he with Me. 21 To him who overcomes I will grant to sit with Me on My throne, as I also overcame and sat down with My Father on His throne. 22 “He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches.”

God requires our works to be His. He commands us to repent and be actively obedient to Him through our actions. If our faith is ‘lukewarm,’ God will know it through our works/actions, which show the true state of our hearts. The Spirit of God is speaking to His churches and we are actively listening and responding in obedience and faith.

James 2:17 – “ So also faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead.”

What works does God require of the Body of Christ so that we will not be seen by Him as ‘lukewarm’? He gives us examples of what He accepts as “pure and undefiled religion” in Scripture:

James 1:27 – “Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and undefiled is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world.”

How can we, as the Body of Christ, desiring to actively BE the true, undefiled religion of Christianity, break out of our patterns of lukewarm ‘works’ in the area of caring for orphans in need, and in providing more availability for an alternative to abortion in our society? And, what will happen when we do actively turn away from sins like of selfishness, materialism, and passivity, and turn toward God with intentional, generous, sacrificial obedience? We may vote for life and Christian marriage, but what else can we do? We can love. We can adopt orphans into Christian homes and church families. And we must first humble ourselves, pray, turn toward God and away from our sinful ways.

2 Chronicles 7:14 – “if My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land.” THEN He’ll forgive and heal and get His people’s society back within His will for our lives/families.

Proverbs 22:6 – “Train up a child in the way he should go and when he is old he will not depart from it.” This is not a promise, but rather a wise guideline given to God’s people to follow. With God’s direction, we want to point as many children toward the Way, the Truth, and the Life, as He gives us the opportunities to do so.
